As part of a high-end residential project, Overend Constructions engaged Trafalgar Access to deliver a customized airtight access panel solution for a steam shower installation. The panel had to maintain strict airtight performance while seamlessly integrating into a micro cement ceiling finish, maintaining a consistent finish with the rest of the interior.

Trafalgar engineered a modified twin-door Airtight Access Panel, adapting the front door to a tile-insert configuration suitable for micro cement sheeting. By retaining airtight performance within the rear door and incorporating a custom bracket to fine-tune the touch latch system, the team ensured minimal leakage rates, precise alignment, and a perfectly flush finish. 


The final solution delivered reliable airtight performance for the steam shower application while achieving a clean, unobtrusive appearance, supporting both functional requirements and the premium design expectations.



The Challenge

  • Achieving the required minimal leakage rate while incorporating an architectural tileable front finish.

  • Integrating the Tileable Access Panel inner frame with the Airtight Access Panel without compromising airtight performance.
  • Maintaining tight manufacturing tolerances to ensure proper sealing and door alightment.
  • Ensuring the added weight and thickness of tiles did not affect panel operation or fit.
  • Fine-tuning the touch latch system so the tileable door sat perfectly flush with the frame.
  • Managing additional engineering oversight and production checks required for this bespoke design.
